Sophie & Mike's engagement portraits were the first session I shot when I was allowed to re-open my studio after lockdown and it truly felt like the universe gave us that perfect evening as a 'sorry' for all the trouble! Haha! It was absolutely magical to be back out, doing what I love and capturing such special memories for such a special couple. We shot their engagement portraits at sunset on Coombe Hill in Wendover. Their wedding was due to take place at Huntsmill Farm in August but has been postponed due to Corona Virus. It is incredibly upsetting and heart breaking to have to postpone your wedding but I know when we are able to celebrate it's going to be an absolutely amazing day and that bit more special for having to wait I'm sure!
Mike's Mum is a close friend of mine and earlier in the week had sent me the sweetest photographs of her own engagement - shot on film and recorded in a beautiful album. They were leaning on a tree and it was just too tempting so of course we had to create them and give them a little modern twist for Sophie & Mike. A lovely little nod to a family tradition and really special for the mother of the groom!
These images were taken with the very last of that magical summer sunset light - nothing can replace that perfect glow and I think it's clear to see why I always ask my clients to come out at sunset for their sessions. I always try and 'steal you' on your wedding day for a few portraits at sunset too - it's such a lovely time to take a break from the day and enjoy a moment of calm with your new husband/wife.
Client's often tentatively ask, 'would it maybe be ok if maybe possibly we could bring our dog with?' My answer is always the same OF COURSE! I am absolutely a dog person in every way - they are a huge part of your family and I think it can be a great way to help you relax if you are feeling nervous. Nothing a little puppy therapy can't fix.
This gorgeous puppy was the perfect model too - she was such a little poser for me and was perfectly well behaved for the entire shoot!
I love shooting at Coombe Hill as there are so many absolutely beautiful locations for photos - every part offers something different from the beautiful long blonde grass, the woodland and of course that incredible view. I shoot here year round and there's always something new on offer to enjoy.
It also makes posing for your portraits easier when you have a beautiful surrounding to interact with - I always help you with posing my prompting you or asking you to look out at the view or tell a funny story about a holiday or favourite family Christmas. Before long any nerves are long gone and we spend the whole session laughing and having a wonderful time!
Styling your engagement session is such an important aspect that I think most people feel daunted by. Sophie and Mike absolutely nailed it by keeping it simple. I always say you should be 'matching without matching' stay on the same colour palette and the same level of 'dressiness' but always - and this is the most important thing - you want look like you on your best day. If you dress up in something that makes you uncomfortable or that you would never usually wear, you won't recognise yourself in the images.
An Engagement Photography Session is included with most of my Wedding Photography Packages - it's such a wonderful way for us to get to know each other better ahead of your big day. We can work together to create portraits that reflect you beautifully as a couple - all taken in a relaxed and romantic way.
