What a year this has been so far - it feels like it has flown by and gone slower than ever in equal measure! This Summer has been all over the place - with us not knowing if we can go on holiday, or see our friends or if we should be going out to eat or just staying home! But as we prepare for the kids to go back to school we can at least hope that it will bring some sense of normality! And with September comes my favourite time of the year - the best sunsets, the best colours, the changing leaves and the crisp evenings.
My Autumn Family shoots are absolutely always my favourite and the images I've taken of my own daughter surrounded by Autumn leaves are always the ones I frame first.
With the earlier sunset it's the perfect time to book in for a Sunset session if you have younger children who might not handle staying up late in the Summer months.
These images are of my daughter and her best friend, who - if you follow my work - you will have seen lots of together! I love photographing children together as their personalities shine - they need very little direction once they realise I really do just want them to play and have fun with me!
I always keep in the 'out takes' as I really believe those are the images you will love in years to come - funny faces and all. The ones that completely show off who they were at that time - the crazy, funny, perfect little monkeys that loved to explore!
While I very rarely ask you to smile and pose straight down the lens - I do think it's important to get a few 'Grandma shots' - we make sure we get these done at the beginning and then let the kids explore and enjoy feeling unrestricted. We play games constantly and even look for fairies and pirates!
On a normal day how many times do you say 'no' to your children? Be honest... I don't think I could even count on two hands personally! When we are on a photoshoot I will always say YES to your children. Can we go and explore over there? YES! Can we have a race? YES. This is time to play, time to connect and time to let go of all the worries we have as parents. Let kids be kids and enjoy saying YES.
For me playing in the leaves should always be about those beautiful belly laughs - the magic of little faces watching the leaves fall and trying to catch them!
Styling your Autumn Family session is hugely important - I bought all of Isla's outfit from Zara. They always have an amazing collection for kids at a really great price point. Try to reflect those Autumn tones in what you wear and mix it up with different textures and patterns to bring the whole look together. I almost always recommend welly boots as it will be muddy in places and if they want to jump in a puddle (at the end of the session) well... you know how I feel about saying YES! ;)
With this years Covid postponed weddings my Autumn is set to be busier than ever so I will only have room on my calendar for 4-6 family sessions this year. If you would like to book in just drop me an email (at firstname.lastname@example.org ) and we can start planning together. The session fee is payable in full to secure your booking. I will help with styling and locations ahead of time and of course will always help with gently posing your family on the day.
If you are still even slightly on the fence about whether or not to go for it, here's what a previous client had to say... 'Poppy arranged the most magical family woodland photoshoot for myself, my husband and our little boy who is two. We can't recommend her highly enough! Poppy made sure the session was loads of fun and we all relaxed instantly with her friendly and warm nature. Our little boy especially loved her and it was all so easy, it just felt like we were hanging out with a friend. When we received our gallery we were in absolute AWE of Poppy! While we were all busy having fun and relaxing she was on her top game, taking incredible, perfectly timed and beautifully composed and detailed shots which are quite simply stunning. Poppy has an exceptional talent for capturing these special moments and all of our friends and family have been so impressed. Thank you Poppy! We can't wait to get them up on display as we could honestly look at them all day! Vanessa, Jez & Morgan Parkes xx'
