A spotlight on: Cherry Tree Cakerie - Wedding Cakes - Recommended Supplier - Poppy Carter Portraits

I'm very lucky to work with some of the top suppliers in the wedding industry and call them my friends - and when we are talking 'best of the best' Charlene's name jumps straight to the top of the list! Her cakes are truly works of art and her passion and love for her job is evident in every creation!

Tell us a bit about yourself and what you do.

Hello! My name is Charlene and I am the owner of Cherry Tree Cakerie. I am based in Buckinghamshire (although a Londoner born and bred!) with my husband in a small village near Buckingham. I left the corporate 9 to 5 world just over two years ago to fulfil my ambition of creating cakes full time and now I am lucky enough to be designing and making luxury wedding cakes for couples who are looking for something beautifully creative and a little bit different for their special day.

Why do you love working in the wedding industry?

What's not to love? Working with a couple to create something unique to them for one of the most special days of their lives is exciting and I'm honoured to be part of it. Working alongside a range of other wedding suppliers to create a vision is enormously satisfying.

Why should a couple hire your particular service for their wedding?

It's a bit of a cliche but I'm passionate about what I do and I like to think this translates into the quality of my work. I work very closely with my couples to create a cake design that fits with them and their vision, as well as making the whole process as easy and enjoyable as possible, especially when they have so much to think about with all the planning. I always suggest a consultation and tasting so that couples can sample some flavours and have the opportunity to ask as many questions as they wish while we work together to create the perfect design.

What are the key things to look for when booking a wedding cake supplier?

Once you have determined your wedding style and feel, then look for a supplier that matches that style and shares the same ethos. Look through their past work and client reviews and if you're excited by what you see then I would suggest booking a consultation. You have to like your wedding suppliers and feel that they understand your needs and vision for your wedding so meeting them is key to deciding whether they're the right supplier for you.

Have you got a favourite story or memory from a particular wedding?

As one of those suppliers who tend to set up the cake before anyone arrives, it's not often that I see the couple on their wedding day. So when I made a cake for a couple getting married at the beautiful Aynhoe Park and they both appeared before the ceremony to view the cake and say hello, it was unexpected but a lovely surprise. Apparently it's usual for couples in Chinese weddings to see each other before the marriage, which I think is lovely and helps minimise the nerves I would imagine!

What are the most popular trends or any trends you predict for your particular service in the wedding industry?

There are so many decorating techniques when it comes to cakes and I'm seeing the popularity of hand-painted cakes continue into 2020. Also on the increase is the use of edible wafer paper flowers in place of sugar flowers. They can be incredibly realistic and they have the bonus of being much more robust than sugar flowers.

What advice would you give a couple when planning their wedding?

Always remember that you are at the core of your wedding. It's very easy to get swayed by others and people like to interfere, albeit well-meaningly, so if this happens then bring it back to you as a couple and focus on what your wedding day means to you.

If you are looking for your dream wedding cake I really can't recommend Charlene highly enough! Head over to her website to see more of her incredible creations.
